PRIORITIES

Education – As parents, my wife and I decided where our children could get the most for our education dollar. This included a mix of public and private schools – opportunities that are afforded to students in New Hampshire through the Education Freedom Accounts and public charter schools. In addition there is the home schooling option. This diversity of choices, assured by statute, is but one of the many reasons New Hampshire is a beacon of opportunity for families up and down the income ladder. Choice and competition create more options, improve quality, provide accountability and lead to lower costs.

Election Integrity – Lets enact common sense voter laws that require presentation of ID showing that New Hampshire is your legal residence.

Energy – The cost of electricity and natural gas are well beyond prices that folks can afford to pay. The state has a responsibility to do all it can to reign in costs. We can do things here in NH that reduce household power bills. There are devices offered at a discount by the utility companies – Eversource and Liberty Gas allowing you to control your energy usage both through time of day and remotely; you can also select an alternative power supplier that competes with Eversource and possibly lower your costs; furthermore there are charges and add-ons to your bill which the Legislature has the power to suspend until the cost of power returns to affordable levels. As someone who knows energy, I will be well-positioned to work on that in Concord.

Housing – What are the barriers preventing housing from keeping pace with demand? Unfortunately it is often our own state and local governments with antiquated zoning, land use restrictions, impact fees and the like which impede the ability of private builders to modernize and keep pace with the critical need to grow our housing stock. There is an active role the Legislature can play in removing impediments to builders and meet the needs of our burgeoning population.

Public Safety – Public safety is the #1 job of our elected representatives yet we have failed to do that. People are in danger of being victims of criminals who are not where they should be – incarcerated. We must revoke the loose bail laws that permit people who commit acts of violence to be let back out on the street.

Second Amendment – I am a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment.

Taxes – I am opposed to a broad-based tax such as a sales or income tax and have taken the CNHT Pledge.

Transportation – Common sense dictates that some form of commuter rail will eventually enable New Hampshirites to travel south for employment, shopping, education, etc. The north-south corridor is simply too congested and all current transport alternatives involve use of the same highways. The federal government has stepped up its efforts to get local and state buy-ins to rail and New Hampshire should partake of the federal funding opportunities to make a huge change to our transportation choices!
